Disco Medley and Disco Bingo Party Game Bundle

We just hosted our first Disco Bingo, and it was a blast! Our Songbird Choir kicked off the festivities with an epic Disco Medley singing and dancing performance. Afterwards, students and families played bingo by swapping out the normal letters with D-I-S-C-O. Most importantly, whenever we had a winner, everyone celebrated by grooving to 1970s disco hits.

Backstory

The fantastic Disco Bingo tradition hails from the Lair of the Golden Bear, where my family attends summer camp every year. Growing up, we would spend months searching for the perfect costumes and then would play to win and dance under the disco ball!

I had an awesome time adapting this beloved tradition and bringing it to our Songbird Choir and school. We printed invitations, had epic decor, and volunteers donated prizes, concessions, and beer/wine. We were able to cover all expenses and make a generous donation to the school for efforts.

Choir preparation and performance

Our choir only had one month (four weekly rehearsals) to prepare for our performance, so I arranged a medley of featuring some of my favorite disco songs. We had 48 singers ages 4-10 (grades TK-4) and to my relief, the melodies and dance moves were catchy enough to stick. We were plenty ready by showtime!

I love a genre-based medley for exposing students to multiple songs and to give them a general sense of 1970s music. Not to mention, arranging a mash-up allows me to cherry pick my favorite parts and leave out any bits with an extreme vocal range, inappropriate lyrics, or are too challenging for young voices.

The students loved the song selections, and parents reported that they were singing on repeat at home. Yay!

Now it’s your turn!

I thought I’d share my resources in case there are any other music teachers or choir directors looking for an upbeat, groovy piece for an upcoming performance. If you do end up using my “Disco Medley” in your program, please let me know via email or comment below! I’d love to connect with a fellow teacher and hear about your experience.
