Recording our choir with Laufey!
BACK STORY
Mr. Stewart produces the talented artist Laufey (pronounced LAY-VAY), who recently released her debut album Everything I Know About Love. As she completed her sold-out U.S. tour, she returned home to LA for a few days and asked if Mr. Stewart was available to record a Christmas song before she left again for her European tour. She was hoping to record “The Christmas Waltz,” which has always been one of her favorites. When she found out that our Advanced Choir was (coincidentally!) learning the same song, Mr. Stewart wondered whether our singers would be interested in singing on the recording.
THE RECORDING EXPERIENCE
Members of our Advanced Choir (Grades 4-8) came over to the Mosey Creative recording studio to meet Laufey, untangle some headphone cords, and record their angelic voices on the track.
Meanwhile, parents were piled up on the couch in the lounge/snack area, listening to the session as quiet as mice. Though I believe we could feel their supportive energy through the walls!
Laufey told Mr. Stewart that it was a dream come true to record a children’s choir, so this was a very special experience for all involved. In fact, if you were to ask me a few years ago, “Mrs. Stewart, what’s your ultimate dream?” I would’ve said, “to teach music classes, singing, and provide young people with performance opportunities from my incredibly inspiring home studio.” So needless to say, I was pretty tickled to turn this vision into a reality!
