Mother’s Day Illustrations + Reflections
Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Grownups Who Love Us Day! I drew this card for my mom, featuring her with her three babies and grand-baby.
Drawing Process: At first, I thought I wanted everyone to be faceless, but my husband thought that might look a bit creepy. But wow, drawing not-creepy mouths was quite a challenge! Which do you prefer?
Drawn with Procreate on my iPad using a slew of brushes from @bardotbrush including Basic Toolkit, Bonus Brushes, Texturrific Shaders, and Magic Paper.
Photo Journal
I made a photo journal to reflect on our recent weekend trip to San Diego. Yay for art for helping to process my [VERY BIG] feelings. 💕 Click each photo to enlarge.
This weekend, my family went to San Diego. It was gorgeous and we made happy memories. It was also hard at times.
The beach was so calming.
My toddler shrieked with GLEE while playing with her grandparents & aunties.
But she also screamed for the long car ride and then skipped her nap (among other things).
I spent a lot of time in our bedroom – exhausted, tapped out, and sobbing.
And when I tried to see the big picture… I thought of a family member who raised five kids, basically on her own.
Then I felt weak for not being able to cope with my own circumstances… caring for only one child, and I have help from family and a supportive partner!
My thoughts kept spiraling: HOW AM I GOING TO SURVIVE BABY #2, WHO WILL ARRIVE ANY DAY NOW?
I don’t know… to be continued…
(Also she loved the trampoline, had a mini bday party, and played lots of dress-up. Also a friend told me “just keep the baby alive for the first six months and literally anything else is a cherry on top.” Also, pregnancy hormones are a TRIP!!)
Tiger Illustration
We've been watching (and rewatching) a lot of “Tiger” on Disney Plus lately. These majestic animals are so inspiring! I made this vibrant illustration to try and capture Ambar’s fierceness, intelligence, and dedication as a wild mama.
🧡 🐅 🧡 All this to say, Happy Mother’s Day!
Made with Procreate on my iPad, inspired by techniques from Art Maker’s Club: Pet Portrait Tutorial by Lisa Bardot.
